Last week I was privileged to be asked to produce the highlights programme for the BBCs D Day commemorations, which went out on BBC2 on Friday evening, after nine hours of programmes on BBC1, which chronicled the commemorations along the Normandy coast.
It was a moving and emotional experience for the entire production team, and tears were shed by everyone at one point or another. Mine came during President Obama’s inspirational speech at Omaha beach.
I spent most of the time working with the editors and producers in a VT truck in Arromanches, but popped out at one point in the afternoon to see the presenter Huw Edwards in the studio, which meant I was in the square just in time for the veterans marchpast in front of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
